  • Are there any websites where I can go for more information?

  • Why would I need a follow-up visit?
  • When should I make my first appointment?

Q: Why do I need to receive counseling for my trip?
A: Not all travelers need all vaccines for travel to all areas. The official web sites are helpful but tend to be 'laundry lists'  that do not help you determine your specific needs. Part of our job is to help you make those decisions. With so many travel health and prevention resources available it can be confusing to know which immunizations you need and which precautions you should follow  when traveling. Our staff regularly updates our recommendations and stays current  with  the issues.

We then tailor each consultation to the specific needs of our patients, based on where they are traveling and their medical history. Our counseling not only includes which vaccinations are required and recommended, but also tips for traveling to various regions of the world and post travel follow-up visits.

Q: Why would I need a follow-up visit?
A: MTHS is unique in that we also provide follow-up visits after you return from your trip. You can call us if you return home ill or with questions about your health. The expertise of our staff is important in diagnosing and giving treatment for illness and conditions that may have developed during or after your trip.
Some vaccine series will actually be completed after travel in order to ensure the lasting effectiveness of the vaccine for future travel.

A: Some vaccinations require a series of doses before becoming fully protective. Please contact MTHS 4-6 weeks prior to your trip to being your immunizations.
Most vaccines are effective for a long time. You can receive vaccines well in advance of  travel if the time immediately before travel will be very busy or stressful, for instance, the holidays, during school exams, before a wedding.
Last minute visits can usually be accommodated and we make every effort in assisting your travel plans.
